    Soot

I have been ready to dump this song from the project on numerous occassions. It has been rewritten in different slight ways several times. When the project first began, Mike had written up some draft lyric ideas for a number of the elements of the story. I then used those drafts to build some songs and write some rough melodies to a few of them. The first verse of Soot - up until now - has retained the melody I had written, but it doesn't work. I recently re-recorded the song removing all production and synths. It is a lot more driving and raw. Mike is going to rewrite the first verse. We have something to offer for this tune finally. Mike always liked it, and believed in it. I was the critical one for this tune.

    Lyrics

    Original Lyrics:

I've seen the change, in myself,
in the twinkling of an eye.
I've seen my world, go up in flames,
the matted stars, they fade away.

I felt the loss of all i love
Smoke filled Skies, no sun left to see
I’ve felt the change, Been rearranged
In the fleeting glimpse of destiny

    Breathe, I can't breathe, I can't breathe this air
I choke from the smoke of the life I've lost
See, I Can't See, Can't See through thE Haze
you've given the night and condemned the day

I don't know what, I don't know why you left me like silent remains
i don't know know, i don't know why you wiped me,
like soot from your your hands

    Re: Soot-Rework

I think the SOot re-work is going nicely the song is alot more powerful now and alive. I've worked the phrase 'Who is going to rescus me' into the lyrics which may not seem like much but I think it's pretty important in the context of the story. Lucius doesn't know from where his salvation will come, BUT he also isn't asking, he is only wondering.

IF we end up adding 'Ressurection' to the album I will work in the lines 'I'm here to rescue you' (from the Christ fiugre's point of view) I think it will further support the story line in a subtle but very poignant way.
